□ Benefits of Creating an SOPĬreating a clear SOP is the first step in effective workflow management as it lays out team expectations and clear-cut instructions for members to refer back to at any time. But SOPs aren’t just for new team members, they’re for everyone. I mean, you wouldn’t expect new team members to succeed and stay ahead of their workload without any form of instruction to guide them, right? Of course not! They’ve got to learn the ropes first. The main goal of a standard operating procedure is to boost team efficiency and coordination by reducing miscommunication and ambiguity in everyday processes. Think of your SOP as a step-by-step guide that defines a specific process-much like the instructional manual that came with your Ikea dresser. What is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)?Ī standard operating procedure (SOP) is a set of mid-to-high level instructions that document how an organization or team should accomplish specific tasks. The Wizards took home the hardware with the only goal of the contest coming from the head of defender Jimmy Conrad off a Carlos Marinelli free kick. The senior team played its first competitive match of the 2008 campaign in Norman, Oklahoma at John Crain Field on the campus of the University of Oklahoma on Maas part of the Saturn Cup against Real Salt Lake. The aforementioned stadium-now known as Children's Mercy Park-was built in Kansas City, Kansas, near Kansas Speedway and the ballpark. Ultimately, due to the financial crisis among other issues, the Wizards plan failed in Missouri. Team owners are currently collaborating with architecture firm 360 Architecture on the design of the new stadium. The target date for completion of construction for a new facility had been stated as the beginning of the 2010 season. According to MLS.net on December 14, 2007, the Wizards plans for a new stadium were approved by the Kansas City council. Under Lane4's plan, the Bannister Mall and Benjamin Plaza shopping centers and the adjoining Benjamin Ranch property would be demolished and replaced with a mixed-use project with retail, office and residential components in addition to a possible Wizards stadium. On July 27, 2007, the Kansas City Star reported that Lane4 Property Group, a developer hired by the Wizards, was moving closer to making plans final for a massive redevelopment of now-vacant Bannister Mall that was intended to include a new 18,500-seat stadium for the Wizards and 12 to 18 tournament soccer fields. The reasons given for the return to Arrowhead were the difficulties in expanding other facilities in the area (the KC Wizards played an exhibition in the beginning of the 2007 season at the District Activities Center owned and operated by the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas) and the delay in the Arrowhead renovation plan. Yet on January 31, 2007, it was announced the Wizards would continue to play in Arrowhead in the 2007 season. ĭue to renovations of Arrowhead Stadium, the Wizards were expected to play at a temporary stadium beginning in 2007, while planning and awaiting the construction of a new facility. Route 69 in south Overland Park, Kansas as its preferred location for a stadium, but this plan was met with numerous difficulties, namely the decision of the town's mayor to pull his support for the financing of the stadium after a vote had failed to secure money for the building of youth fields at the same site. The Wizards' new ownership identified a site at 159th Street and U.S. The Wizards had been seeking sites for a soccer-specific stadium, initially targeting possible locations in Johnson County, Kansas. This marked the start of club's longstanding relationship with the city of Kansas City, Kansas, as the eventual new stadium the team sought out was constructed in this city. So, why all the names?īasically, it’s down to the preference of the brand. For this reason, each of the batteries, and more specifically the CR123 and the CR123a are 100% interchangeable. For this particular sized battery, the ‘a’ makes no difference. If you search for 123 lithium batteries, you will often find a selection of CR123s or DL 123As. In actual fact, in the case of these batteries, there is no difference. So what’s the difference between CR123 and CR123a battery ? They are lithium batteries and have 3 volts. They are all 16.5mm in diameter and 34mm in length. Some brands will choose to put an a/A on the end to represent the A cell. So any 123 battery is 1 2/3 of an A cell battery. What does cr mean in batteries? The C stands for Lithium and R for round. The CR123 and CR123a are both logically named. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the CR123 vs CR123a batteries and explore their pros and cons. While they may seem similar, they actually have a few key differences that can make a significant impact on your device’s performance. If you’re in the market for a new battery for your device, you may have come across the CR123 and CR123a batteries. Amazon’s Best Selling Battery Power Banks!.Tips for storing and handling batteries. So what’s the difference between CR123 and CR123a battery?.Are the CR123 and CR123a batteries interchangeable?.That does sound like pretty good life to me. This is just what I see on mine, but it sounds similar to you. Your actual readings might vary-I'm not sure how calibrated mutlimeters are and I've certainly never compared mine to anything. I imagine this complicates percentage-based reporting due to both the non-linearity but also the fact that if battery checkins aren't frequent enough and the battery drains quickly, it might not even have time to catch this happening. Lithium battery life is harder to estimate because the decline isn't linear: it stays at a fairly high voltage most of its life, then sharply declines when it's near the end. By the time they get close to 3.0V, they're practically dead in my experience, and if I find one that's around 2.7-2.8 V (as I do on occasion), it's usually been dead for a while before I noticed. In my experience, my multimeter reads new lithum batteries at a bit above 3.2V when new. So I have a general question - how low can the voltage be on a CR123A battery without compromising the function of a contact sensor? OTOH, 3.04V doesn't seem that far away from 3.28V and Hubitat did report it as being 100%, and maybe just removing the sensor and replacing the battery fixed the reed switch for a bit. 2 As you add devices, use the speed test to make sure your connection remains stable. Since then, she published a memoir about her time in Vietnam, A War Away: An American Woman in Vietnam, 1967-1974, and edited her dear friend Daisy Kwok’s memoir, Shanghai Daisy. Her last Shanghai walking guide was published in 2016, the year she repatriated: Final Five Shanghai Walks: The Where’s Where of the Who’s Who of Old Shanghai. She and Deke pioneered research into Shanghai Art Deco, culminating in the beautiful, richly illustrated book Shanghai Art Deco. Tess remained in Shanghai for the next 20 years, giving lively walking tours, delivering talks (her classic: “A Hundred Years of Shanghai’s Expat History in 50 Minutes”), and never tiring of exploring old buildings and researching and writing books. (Left): Tess’ last Historic Shanghai walk in April 2016, covering the route she wrote about for the “Final Five” walking guide and (Right): Rubbing the nose of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank lion for luck, an old Shanghai tradition. The pair would go on to collaborate on 25 books, including a glorious tome on Shanghai Art Deco, 15 volumes on Western architecture and the Western presence in treaty ports throughout China, as well as a series of walking guides through the history of different Shanghai neighborhoods-a priceless contribution to the story of Shanghai. Tess and Deke’s first book together, A Last Look: Western Architecture in Old Shanghai, published in 1993, was the first to highlight the city’s built heritage, the first visual record of its incredible architecture legacy. “Nobody was interested back then,” he says, “not even the professors at Tongji University (now noted for its preservationist architectural faculty).” When he returned in the 1980s, he looked at the city with new eyes, and saw a wealth of historic architecture. Saddled with a “bad family background”, he just wanted to get away from Shanghai, where all his associations were negative. Right: top, Deke Erh, bottom, Tess and Deke on the rooftop of the Continental Bank.ĭeke, who is Shanghainese, had first picked up a camera as a teenager during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), and travelled the countryside. Left: Tess and Deke, exploring the former Continental Bank vault. It would her take her several more years-with a posting in Paris in between–before she found that photographer, Deke Erh (Erh Dongqiang). There was a book in this once-great city, but superb photographs were essential. The wheels of change had begun, slowly, and Tess was all too aware that this museum of pre-1949 architecture could not last. She unearthed invaluable research aids: a treasure trove of Old Shanghai books and maps in the street markets, and another sort of treasure trove in the people who had grown up in the years before 1949, and who shared the stories of their past lives. She got down to the business of getting to know the city, photographing, documenting, and discovering. Right: Tess sharing her experiences of 1980s Shanghai with a capacity Historic Shanghai audience in 2018. Left: Shanghai was ‘perfectly preserved’ when Tess arrived in 1981. “I was in the right place at the right time, so why not?” She quickly realized that her curiosity about this “Western city improbably perched on the shores of China,” was not going to be easily satisfied, and she was going to have to be the one to do it. No one wanted to talk about the history of these buildings, owned by imperialists and blacklisted capitalists, let alone research and write about it. It was a scruffy showcase of Western architecture, and it was absolutely wonderful.”īut in 1981 Shanghai, the city’s pre-1949 Western architecture was considered little more than an embarrassing reminder of the ‘Century of Shame’, a physical reminder of a hundred years of forced foreign domination. It was perfectly preserved, a cross between Warsaw in 1938 and Calcutta, a totally Western city with an Asian population. I had never been to a foreign country that looked so utterly and completely Western. “I had never seen anything like Shanghai. Photo: Frank Langfitt, NPRĪ native of Charlottesville, Virginia-who, despite living all over the world for half a century, has never lost her charming Southern drawl, in English and Chinese-Tess first arrived in Shanghai in September 1981, with the U.S. On September 17 2021, Tess turned 90-no better time to celebrate Shanghai’s preservation pioneer! Tess Johnston, just before repatriating, in 2016. For all this, we owe a great deal to Tess Johnston, Historic Shanghai’s co-founder, who pioneered the study of Old Shanghai and is the expert on the pre-1949 Western presence here. It’s a “booming cottage industry,” says historian Jeffrey Wasserstrom. The cult of Old Shanghai is flourishing: WeChat groups, walking tours, Instagram, books everywhere you turn, someone’s leveraging Shanghai history. My own reaction? I’d have much preferred they’d left Willson’s terrific work as written. A friend sent me such video clips, asking: “What do you think of this?” (Buy a copy, if you can!) And anyone who reads that book comes to understand just how long and hard Willson worked on The Music Man, and how much thought went into each choice he made as he struggled to shape the material into the best possible form.īut shortly after the current production’s first performances began on Broadway, video clips began circulating among theater buffs, showing some changes that had been made for this revival. The book that Willson wrote about the creation of the show, But He Doesn’t Know the Territory, has long been my favorite theatrical memoir-the best book I’ve ever read about the making of a show. The Music Man was the culmination of Willson’s decades of work up until that point. The Music Man-which works about as well as any Broadway musical you could name–is one man’s artistic vision. Gypsy, by contrast, had music by one person (Jule Styne), lyrics by another (Stephen Sondheim), and a book by still another (Arthur Laurents). The remarkable Meredith Willson (1902-1984) wrote the book, music and lyrics. And The Music Man-unique among the all-time-great major musicals-was written by just one person, rather than by two or three collaborators. The Music Man, I might add, is a wholly original musical, and even more to be cherished for that reason unlike most musicals, it’s not an adaptation of a previously successful novel, collection of stories, or play. It is extremely rare-and deserving of celebration-when the creators of musicals get everything right. I’ve seen different productions of all of these masterworks repeatedly over the years these musicals never fail to get to me. Other first-rate, masterfully constructed Broadway musicals include Gypsy, My Fair Lady, Hello, Dolly!, Chicago, Cabaret, and Fiddler on the Roof. It is equally strong in book, music and lyrics, which is quite rare. The Music Man is-along with just a handful of other musicals-in the very top tier. In my judgment, it’s about as perfect a musical as any in the canon. The Music Man is one of my all-time favorite shows. There are broader issues worth reflecting on.įirst, let me tell you where I’m coming from. And I don’t think the issues that I’m discussing below should stop anyone who’s interested in seeing The Music Man from buying tickets (if you can afford them).īut I’d like to comment on a couple of changes that-needlessly and foolishly, in my opinion–have been made for this revival: a revised lyric for “Shipoopi,” and a reworked “My White Knight.” I think there’s food for thought here, for producers considering future revivals of other Broadway classics. The whole city could use a big hit right now. I hope the current Broadway revival enjoys a long run and entertains a lot of people. There have been plenty of complete reviews of the new production and there will be plenty more. Before I start, let me make one thing clear. An online shop to help you create a Scandinavian-style home By sharing our knowledge and passion for Scandinavian interior design, we want to make Scandinavian home design available worldwide and inspire people to open the doors to their home and bring people together. We seek to help inspire people to create homes they love and love to share. The name was changed in May of 2019, but our concept and goal has stayed the same. Until 2019, Nordic Nest was known under the name Scandinavian Design Center. Here you will find the best of Scandinavian interior design in one place. Welcome to Nordic Nest – Home of Scandinavian Design. |
